In the first week, we worked systematically through the following 7 animated exercises using the materials provided, to cover the 12 principles of animation and become familiar with both AfterEffects and Photoshop.
This rotation give me a grounding in the fundamentals of 2D animation and motion graphics. Specially the animation 12 principles.
the 12 principles is important, Squash and stretch, Anticipation, Staging, Straight-ahead action and pose-to-pose, Follow through and overlapping action, Slow in and slow out, Arc, Secondary action, Timing, Exaggeration, Solid drawing, and software including AfterEffects and Photoshop.
I learnt how to animate walking and how to animate breathing. I found that dynamic undulations are particularly important in animation and I think it is particularly important to learn about realistic dynamics in animation, especially when there are dynamic movements to refer to.
I also found by watching many good animations, especially the telephoto lens that it is important to ignore many details, otherwise it will be very conflicting with the background and the audience will not be able to tell which part they should care about. Because it is in telephoto lens, the background is the most important, because the background will explain a lot of important information such as the background of the story, the time and place.
I learnt how to animate in Photoshop and how to use onion skin in class. I animated the whole thing in Photoshop and used after effect to add a sense of materiality to the video, which helped me a lot to get familiar with the software.
